STORYHow Kabul students are shooting their first films on iPhone
A new generation of Afghan filmmakers is bypassing studios and going straight to the App Store.
At a small studio in Karte Char, twenty students are learning how to shoot, edit, and colour-grade short films entirely on iPhone. The workshop, sponsored by Khpalwak Mobiles, runs every Saturday and uses a small fleet of iPhone 17 Pros, DJI Osmo Mobile gimbals, and the latest version of Final Cut for iPad.
For most of the participants, this is their first time touching a professional camera workflow — and the iPhone's ProRes recording, log capture, and Cinematic Mode are letting them produce work that would have required a studio rental two years ago.
